Driver CPC
The Driver Certificate of Professional Competency (CPC) is a scheme for LGV (and PCV) drivers who drive professionally throughout the UK. It is being developed as a requirement of the EU Directive 2003/59, which is designed to improve the knowledge and skills of professional LGV and PCV drivers throughout their working life.
Professional drivers of vehicles over 3.5 tonnes who haven't completed 35 hours of accredited off the job training before September 2014 will not be able to carry on working as a professional driver within your business.
New drivers will take the initial qualification route and will need to pass an increased theory and practical test to gain their Driver CPC.
For existing drivers there is no initial test to pass. Instead, existing drivers will have 'acquired rights' and will be required to complete 35 hours of approved training every five years to retain their qualification and continue to drive professionally. Courses must be at least 7 hours duration in order to count towards periodic training which equates to a full working day i.e. drivers must complete 5 days training every five years to obtain and retain their Drivers CPC.
Only courses approved by the Driving Standards Agency, such as the courses offered by Gateshead College in partnership with Group Horizon will count towards periodic training.
We can provide a tailored companywide solution for the CPC training of your drivers. We are committed to support individuals in achieving their required CPC hours and will be providing a variety of informative and approved courses over the 4 year period.
